Would it be an option to give the mention links (@username) a css class "mention" or something like an other identifier.

Just tried to expand the hovercard to act on mentions, but with the present system I don't find any good solution.

BTW: Due to the cache system it will only work on newly arrived items - or you have to enabled this parameter in your .htconfig.php:

$a->config['system']['ignore_cache'] = true;

(But you should disabled it after the test)
